State of Readiness
ESCO maintains a regional office in Plano, Texas (centered in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex) and is headquartered in Lenox, Massachusetts (located midway between Albany, NY and Hartford, CT). Managerial efficiency and state-of-the-art automation enables ESCO to deliver large volume and excellent results with a relatively modest staff. The principals of the company are Mr. F. Colby Lewis, President, and Mr. Mitchell Barack, Executive Vice President.

Strong project management is one of the main distinguishing features of our company. Our team of highly experienced project managers is proficient in coordinating the extensive detail associated with energy conservation projects. Project managers are front line representatives for ESCO who are largely responsible for the high level of customer satisfaction expressed in our letters of recommendation.

We have long-term relationships with utility representatives and regularly review and participate in new incentive programs. Our demonstrated attention to detail allows us to accurately determine and qualify for the most beneficial energy reduction rebates and incentives available. We regularly receive accolades from utility representatives about the clarity and accuracy of our rebate paperwork and supporting documents.

Communications
ESCO fully utilizes state-of-the-art technologies that enable fast and reliable communications with customers, vendors, and affiliates. We use a customized database and reporting system for proposal generation and project management. This system has recently been redesigned and upgraded by an experienced programming team.

In addition to the sales and project management personnel, our operations and finance team is available on a full-time basis to communicate with customers and utility representatives. ESCO field staff and office are networked via phone, computer and fax. Our phone system supports conference calls and remote access. With the systems we have developed since 1992, important communications between ESCO and clients are never delayed for a significant amount of time. ESCO’s ability to provide fast, flexible, and effective communications accelerates both sales and installation processes.

Company History
F. Colby Lewis, President, and Mitchell M. Barack, Vice President, founded ESCO Energy Services Company in 1992. Mr. Lewis and Mr. Barack brought over twenty years of combined experience in lighting and energy conservation to ESCO. The company was born out of the frustration experienced by both partners in their previous experiences with other lighting retrofit companies. They sold projects with sincere and seemingly realistic promises of excellent results, only to see many of those projects break down during installation. It was commonplace to see eighty percent of a project completed on schedule, but the remaining twenty percent drag out, for a variety of reasons, for weeks or months past the target completion date. Knowing that lighting retrofit could be done much more professionally and profitably, Mr. Lewis and Mr. Barack established ESCO Energy Services Company based on the simple premise that lighting retrofit projects properly marketed, engineered, and managed would create satisfied customers who would eagerly recommend ESCO to others. Today, with many successful projects completed nationwide, ESCO enjoys an excellent reputation across the industry for quality, competitive pricing, and unparalleled customer service.

From ESCO’s beginnings in New England, we have grown into a company with a strong presence from Maine to Florida and Illinois to Texas. This growth has been fueled by numerous corporate referrals. ESCO proudly displays a rapidly growing list of industrial, commercial, and institutional customers located in every region of the country plus Canada & Mexico. Recent installations include: Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, California, Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire & Maine.

The Philips Story (A Case Study)
Several years ago, Colby Lewis called on a Philips Components plant in New York State, and was told by the facility manager that the lighting had been "done". With further inquiry he found out that Philips was only planning to upgrade the executive offices of the facility. Mr. Lewis met with key decision-makers and revealed the benefits of a facility-wide lighting upgrade. A proposal was presented and accepted.

Mr. Lewis then met with the Director of Environmental Affairs for Philips Electronics North America Corporation (PENAC), Philips Component’s parent company, and helped to develop a corporate-wide strategy to reduce lighting costs. PENAC employs over 30,000 people in its various divisions that include Philips Components, Magnavox, and Philips Lighting Company. Although a national corporation, each facility of each division had to be looked at on an individual basis. ESCO Energy Services Company audited over 7.3 million square feet and has upgraded over 2.7 million square feet of space for PENAC. As a result, PENAC has reduced its annual lighting energy budget by over $730,000.

ESCO attended three of PENAC’s annual environmental seminars promoting the corporate objective of reducing energy use by 25% by the year 2000. By retrofitting all of their production and office facilities nationwide, ESCO positioned Philips Lighting Company to become the 1996 Green Lights Manufacturing Ally-of-the-Year.

ESCO continues to consult with PENAC.
